Did you know About “Sniper Services?”

The headline is misleading; this has nothing to do with the sniper most of us think about. Doing a research scan of shipping services for a UPS story in our supply chain section, I stumbled upon a list of companies that do “Auction Sniping”. I had never heard of the term and investigated it. Auction Sniping is the process of using an online service that monitors an online auction and inserts a ‘winning bid’ at the last second before an auction closes. You set up the parameters (a ceiling that you won’t go above) and the sniping service takes care of the rest. There are different qualities of services out there and apparently one sniper service can outperform another (in other words, your online sniper could be competing against other online snipers for the winning bid). eCommerce Bytes has a list of them here if you are interested (we don’t recommend or condone the idea): http://www.auctionbytes.com/R/R/Chart?Sniping_Services  Where there is a need, there will be innovators. Wow, I have to get out more. – Keith
